About us

Supported Recruitment is an education recruitment agency with offices in Leeds and York, supplying and recruiting teachers to primary schools in the North and West Yorkshire regions.

Supported is an education recruitment agency with a difference. We don’t just supply or place staff, we work in partnership with our teachers and partner schools, supporting them every step of the way.

We provide our teachers with a personalised career development package to ensure they are properly prepared for their teaching assignment.

We support our teachers by working alongside them in a team teach scenario whilst they are in school. We know that this team approach to support is the most effective method for coaching the best from our team.

Meet the team

Richard Robinson

The driving force behind Supported Recruitment is Co-Director, Richard Robinson, a qualified primary school teacher and well-known face across the city’s education scene.

About Richard
  • Specialist Leader in Education (SLE)
  • Supported teachers and leaders in both the Yorkshire and Humberside regions
  • 15 years’ experience teaching KS2
  • Assistant Head at Robert Wilkinson Primary Academy
  • Deputy Head at Haxby Road Primary Academy
  • Leader of literacy training across the Ebor Academy Trust
  • Lead literacy teacher for York City Council

Richard started his teaching career in York over 15 years ago and it is through his own progression from teacher, to leader, mentor and coach that the idea for Supported came about.

“As a leader and a teacher, I have worked with many supply teachers over the years and recognise that it can be a very difficult task to go into a new school and teach effectively, often at short notice.

I believe strongly that, in order to succeed, supply teachers need continuous professional support and access to quality resources. I have completed a few spells of supply work in different schools, so I have valuable insight into how supply teaching works, from the perspective of the teacher and the school leader.

Many agencies do a great job finding their teachers work and assigning them to a short-term job; however at Supported, we have a fresh approach. We invest in our teachers, prepare them, coach and mentor them and provide shared resources and toolkits so they can feel confident walking in to a classroom regardless of how long their contract is. Importantly we will also help our teachers to progress in their careers.

We form strong, working relationships with schools to help us gain a deep understanding of their recruitment needs.”

Richard is fully involved with supporting and placing supply teachers. He is on-hand providing advice and feedback throughout the period of each contract.

James Robinson

James is our Co-Director at Supported Recruitment. He is an experienced recruiter and manager with a proven track record in building successful, long-term relationships with clients and candidates.

About James
  • Twelve years’ experience in recruitment, three of which have been in a management capacity, placing people into both permanent and temporary contracts
  • Nine years working with local authorities
  • As a Senior Manager, helped guide EBS Leeds social work division, to become Team of the Year 2017
  • Played an integral role in the recruitment, assessment and training of graduates and new consultants through the HCIG graduate scheme

James has worked in recruitment for over a decade and takes real pride in delivering the best possible service for the people he works with.

“Being a parent myself I know what a truly amazing job teachers do and what important role models they are. It’s so important that they are given the recognition and support they deserve and this is the ethos behind the support packages we provide. We want to give teachers every possible chance and opportunity to thrive within this wonderful profession.”

Helen Russell

Helen is our Co-Director at Supported Recruitment Leeds. She is a qualified teacher and has over 13 years’ experience of senior leadership across the Primary phase.

Testimonials

Supporting teachers in different keystages

“I cannot recommend Supported Recruitment highly enough. I joined just after completing my PGCE and the support and commitment to my development as a teacher I received from Rich and the team has been nothing short of amazing. I started in September in a long-term teaching assistant role which helped me secure a part-time teaching role. I now mix supply work with a permanent role, which has given me the opportunity to work in Key Stage 2. Every time I have worked in a new year group Rich has supported me, up skilling my teaching and giving me confidence to teach across key stages.”

Donna McMahon| NQT and Primary Teacher, York

Support in all areas of the recruitment process

“Supported Recruitment were involved in all aspects of the recruitment process whilst appointing Megan, the latest NQT to join the Hob Moor teaching staff. Supported Director, Richard, became part of the leadership team through the observation and interview process and this partnership ensured we found the right NQT for our teaching team. Ruth Jobson, one of the Supported coaches, now works with Megan on a weekly basis in the classroom and helps nurture her development.”

Debbie Cousins| Head Teacher, Hob Moor Primary Academy, York

Coaching teachers in the classroom

“The company’s owners are superb teachers themselves. They come into school to work alongside the supply teacher through coaching, thus building in continuous professional development where it really matters – in the classroom.”

Lesley Barringer| Head Teacher, Osbaldwick Primary Academy, York

Commitment and passion for teaching

“Supported Recruitment have given me brilliant support in the first term of my NQT year. From Richard coming in to introduce the use of technology within my lessons, to Ruth supporting me every week by providing both great resources, advice and moral support. They have both shown the great commitment and passion that Supported Recruitment has for supporting and developing other teachers.”

Megan Boyt| Primary NQT Teacher, York

Professional and Approachable

“I have loved my time working with Supported Recruitment and only wish I had found them earlier. They combine professionalism with friendliness and approachability. As the name suggests, I was always supported in my placements and knew I could rely on the team to answer any questions I had.
Thanks again for all your support ”

Nicola French| Primary Teacher, York

Providing personlised training and support

“In just three months, Supported Recruitment has provided me with more training and professional development than I have had over the last ten years! From supporting me to experience teaching in KS1, to learning how to use the google classroom, Richard and Gemma have really helped to upskill me and boost my confidence. ”

Jen Cliff| Primary Teacher, York

Providing a personal service

“We highly recommend Supported Recruitment. Rich, Gemma and the team are so friendly and helpful and we have always been very satisfied with all the supply teachers they have sent us. It feels as if we are being provided with a personal service, and they are by far the best supply agency we have ever used”

Judy Sandilands| School’s business manager, Poppleton Ousebank Primary Academy

Supporting Newly Qualified Teachers

“What I like the most about SupportED is that you feel as though you work with them, rather than for them. Working with Gemma has been enjoyable and insightful. Both Richard and Gemma have helped me in any way they can and have always offered their support.
They offer multiple levels of support both inside and outside the classroom. I’m so grateful for all their help and the opportunities for work they have given me.
Thank you Rich! ”

Laura Douse| Newly Qualified Teacher, York

Supporting Newly Qualified Teachers on long term placements

“SupportED Recruitment have given me such a great start to my teaching career. During my time with them I have been supported both professionally and personally, which has enabled me to become more confident in myself and my teaching ability.
During my long term supply, Gemma has been my SupportED mentor. She came in to school to support me with all the aspects of teaching I needed on a weekly basis.
They are reliable, friendly and a brilliant company to work for.”

Carys Williams| Newly Qualified Teacher, York

Supporting teachers on long term placements

“I would just like to say how great it has been working with Supported. I joined in January and have had work pretty much everyday. During my long term position I was very fortunate to have the support of Gemma working directly with the children we needed to boost for phonics screening. With her commitment, useful resources and support we achieved our targets. I have been very grateful to work with Supported Recruitment and look forward to my future working with them.”

Selina Mitha| KS1 teacher, York

Supporting Unqualified Teachers

“I have really enjoyed working with Richard and Gemma over the past month in various different schools. As an unqualified teacher, it has been really useful to have their support when on supply and they have provided me with lots of useful ideas. Through completing supply in the term before my NQT year, it has allowed me to visit a variety of schools and gather ideas for my own classroom for September, as well as building my confidence. I would recommend SupportED Recruitment to anyone, especially for those just starting out in their teaching career.”

Kayleigh Hannan | Primary Degree Graduate, University York St John’s

Passionate about developing and supporting teachers

“I have worked alongside Richard for 10 years creating links across our schools, developing literacy and supporting staff. We have both worked together in a coaching scenario when we became deputy heads. Richard is passionate about developing and supporting other teachers to help them succeed.”

Lorraine Atkinson | Deputy Headteacher, Heworth CE Primary School, York

Effective coaching and support

“Richard is an excellent communicator and able to identify strengths and areas for development with careful observations, through honest discussion and by knowing individuals. His experience and success in the classroom mean he empathises with the daily challenges teachers face but also is able to coach and offer support effectively.”

Anne Foreman | Deputy Headteacher, Huntington Primary Academy, York

Nurture and develop

“Richard is dedicated to supporting both teachers and leaders in education. I have known Richard for over 14 years now and I have continued to be impressed with his ability to nurture and develop the potential of others.”

Adam Cooper | Headteacher, Knavesmire Primary School, York

A strong leader in education

“I have known Richard for over 14 years and he continues to demonstrate that he is dedicated to the teaching profession. He has shown himself to be a strong leader in education and I am sure he’ll continue to support and develop other members of the teaching profession.”

Matthew Brown | Deputy Headteacher, Osbaldwick Primary School, York

A great service

“I have really valued the work that Rich and the team have put into helping us with supply cover. We have now had three different members of staff from Supported Recruitment working within our team and they have all had a positive impact in the classroom. Great support, from phone call through to the teacher joining us in school. Of course it goes without saying that we will continue to use Supported recruitment for any future supply requirements.”

Caroline Towler | Headteacher, Brotherton and Byram Primary Academy, Knottingley
